Webserver Trios – Playing Rules

BCCA WS TRIOS RULES

  1. When required the BCCA President is responsible for applying to the ICCF for permission to run the BCCA WS Trios.

 

  1. The BCCA will appoint a tournament organiser who will act as or appoint a tournament director for each WS Trios tournament. The tournament organiser is authorised by the BCCA Executive Committee to take whatever decisions are required in relation to the running of the BCCA WS Trios.

 

  1. The BCCA WS Trios will start continually every year and will be open to all paid-up BCCA members who apply to the tournament organiser. The tournament organiser may receive entries throughout each year from BCCA members. There is no entry fee.

 

  1. There will be tournaments of five levels each containing three players where each player plays two games against each opponent. These will be designated as:

 

  1. Class 1. Each player may have a maximum of three active tournaments. In the event of a tie between the first two players in a class 1 tournament both of those players will be promoted to class 2 and the third placed player will be eliminated. If the event of a tie between the second and third placed players there will be no elimination. If there is a three way tie in a class 1 tournament all three players will play again in class 1.

 

  1. Class 2. Each player may have a maximum of one active tournament. In the event of a tie between the first two players in a class 2 tournament both of those players will be promoted to class 3 and the third placed player will be relegated to class 1. If the event of a tie between the second and third placed players there will be no relegation. If there is a three way tie in a class 2 tournament all three players will play again in class 2.

 

  1. Class 3. Each player may have a maximum of one active tournament. Only the outright winner following any tie-breaks will qualify for the semi-final and the third placed player will be relegated to class 2. In the event of a tie between the first two players in a class 3 tournament both of those players remain in class 3 and the third placed player will be relegated to class 2. If the event of a tie between the second and third placed players there will be no relegation. If there is a three way tie in a class 3 tournament all three players will play again in class 3.

 

  1. Semi-finals. One entry is permitted for each semi-final ticket. In the event of a tie between the first two players in a semi-final tournament both of those players remain in a semi-final and the third placed player will be relegated to class 3. If the event of a tie between the second and third placed players there will be no relegation. If there is a three way tie in a semi-final tournament all three players will play again in a semi-final.

 

  1. One entry is permitted for each final entry ticket. In the event of a tie between the first two players in the final the third placed player will be eliminated and the tied players will play off for the title. If the tie is between the second and third placed players the BCCA Master points under rule 11 e) and the prizes under rule 12 will be equally split. If there is a three way tie in the final the final will be replayed. More than one final may be in play at any given time.

 

  1. Entry rules: All players will normally start in Class 1. If a player’s ICCF rating is 2001 to 2200 inclusive the player may start in Class 2. If a player’s rating is over 2200 the player may start in Class 3. A player without an ICCF rating but with a FIDE rating of 2001 or higher may start in either Class 2 or Class 3 with the approval of the tournament organiser.

 

  1. Play in all of the above tournaments will commence as soon as three players are available at each level. There will be no end date in any WS Trios tournament.

 

  1. ICCF playing and tournament rules for server play will apply except that games shall not be ICCF rated and ICCF norms cannot be obtained. All games will be played on the ICCF webserver. Players must maintain their BCCA membership throughout the tournament.

 

  1. The ICCF standard time control of 10 moves in 35 days with duplication after 15 days will be used. 14 days of leave per year are available to each player.

 

  1. Ties are broken by ICCF rule 1.3.4.2. If needed, adjudicators will be selected by the ICCF server.

 

  1. The winners of WS Trios tournaments at the various levels will be rewarded as follows:

 

  1. Class 1: As described in rule 4 a).

 

  1. Class 2: As described in rule 4 b).

 

  1. Class 3: The outright winner will receive one semi-final ticket. Joint winners will receive half a semi-final ticket. As described in rule 4 c).

 

  1. Semi-final: The outright winner will receive one final ticket. Joint winners will receive half a final ticket. As described in rule 4 d).

 

  1. Final: The outright winner is crowned BCCA WS Trios champion.

 

  1. For each WS Trios tournament the following BCCA Master points and BCCA Candidate Master points will be allocated at the end of the tournament:

 

  1. Class 1: First placed player will earn 2 points towards the BCCA Candidate Master Title.

 

  1. Class 2: First placed player will earn 4 points towards the BCCA Candidate Master Title.

 

  1. Class 3: First placed player will earn 3 points towards the BCCA Master Title.

 

  1. Semi-final: First placed player will earn 3 points towards the BCCA Master title; the second placed player will earn 2 BCCA Master Points towards the BCCA Master title.

 

  1. Final: First placed player will earn 6 points towards the BCCA Master title; the second placed player will earn 4 points towards the BCCA Master title; the third placed player will earn 2 points towards the BCCA Master title.

 

Where players are declared equal after the application of ICCF rule 1.3.4.2, these points will be shared between those players who are declared equal. No BCCA Master Points or BCCA Candidate Master Points will be awarded if in any WS Trios tournament there is a three way tie. Any conversion between BCCA Master points and BCCA Candidate Master points will be at the discretion of the BCCA Executive Committee should an application be received by the tournament organiser.

 

  1. Prizes will be allocated at the end of the WS Trios tournament final as follows:

 

  1. First place (BCCA WS Trios Champion) will receive £80;

 

  1. Second place will receive £40;

 

  1. Third place will receive £20.

 

Where players are declared equal after the application of ICCF rule 1.3.4.2, these prizes will be shared between those players who are declared equal.

 

  1. Any matters concerning the organisation and running of the tournament not covered in these rules and any appeals against the decisions of the tournament organiser will be determined by the BCCA Executive Committee whose decision shall be final.

 

  1. Any matters concerning the ICCF rules for server play will be decided by the ICCF whose decision shall be final.
